Hi, Martin,
I'm so impressed with the cover art feature in the alpha version that I might never look back at another player...
Still, I've been using it for some time, and, since I could not find a single bug (which is great), I started wondering what could possibly make this program even better...
Well, talking to some friends that I convinced to start using 1by1 as a primary music player some time ago, I realized that very few people use some of the more "advanced" functions of 1by1 (like the filecopy option, the Intro Scan, etc).
For me, an essential function is the INTRO SCAN. It really allows me to do some very important things, such as:
- quickly test a given number of music files for integrity.
- quickly sample an album, either to check if it is good enough, or to see if I recognize (or even know) the songs in it.
I just demonstrated the function to my friends and they loved it! (they had no idea it was even available)
The only criticism they had was about the position of the "Intro Scan Popup window".
Every time you activate the Intro Scan (ctrl+N or context menu on the toolbar, n) the program displays a popup window that appears to be exactly located at the same position relative to the 1by1 global program window position: under the toolbar, a little bit to the left of the program.
We all talked about how cool it would be if that window could be incorporated inside the program interface (instead of a popup), but at the same time we know how much work that would be...
Still, it got me wondering about an alternative solution:
- Would it be possible for the program to remember the user preferred location of this Intro Scan Popup Window (probably in its "1by1.ini" file)?
The reason for this is that whenever you activate the Intro Scan function, you can still browse directories and have that function going on until you find the right album you're looking for and hit the close button.
The problem is that the Intro Scan Window is always located right above the tree window, forcing you to dislocate the window every time you use the function.
So, Martin, I'm really sorry to ask you for another thing (I really understand if you say no), but is it possible (to keep the relative location of the intro scan window in the .ini file)? |

Yes, that seems to make sense and should be easily possible for the next release. Integrating the Intro Scan gadgets somewhere in the GUI is too complicated.
At the moment I'm realizing the DirectSound interface which (in all steps) is complex enough ;)

Hi, Martin,
First of all, thank you so much for this amazing version of 1by1!!!
v.1.65 is so great in all aspects that it's hard for me to think how you will be able to improve it even more in the future.
But then again, since I was paying special attention to this version change, I could see that you had a very long list of improvements from v.1.64 and that most of that I would not have noted otherwise... I'm gessing a lot of the improvements normally stay "under the hood" and we do not acknowledge.
I'm very impressed by how much you can improve and add features to the player over the years and still be able to keep it simple, small and fast!
(I compared to the alpha version and somehow you managed to get the program to be faster... Just how you were able to do it, I have no idea... )
About the Intro Scan, now that the player remembers your preferred position (how great is that!? ), it is better than ever. I can not thank you enough!
Please don't get me wrong, because I am as happy as possible with the program, but I have a small question:
Is there any chance (I mean, would it be possible to implement in the future) that the Intro Scan could behave just like the player when it reaches the last music in the album (the directory)?
i.e. When the last song comes, it just continues in the next album (folder) in the folder hierarchy. Perhaps it could be something that you could turn on and off in the settings.
The reason for this would be that sometimes, when you're using the intro scan, looking for a specific song or a specific album, it would be more easy (or comfortable) to keep working on something else on the computer while you listen to the small parts of the songs, without having to skip to the next album every time it reaches the end.
The Intro Scan function works great when you're focused on the player window and just "browsing" the songs, manually changing the albums, but it would definitely be good to be able to set an "autopilot" on the Intro Scan (just like we have with the player).
Well, I know the same results are possible by browsing album by album and queuing all the songs and performing an Intro Scan on the Playlist instead. But if you have 10 or 14 albums to search for a song and they happen to be in the right order (one after the other) we could save a lot of time by having the function automatically skip to the next album at the end of the Intro Scan.
Anyway, I just wanted to thank you for all the effort you put into making 1by1 a better player over and over and over...
It's a brilliant work and you really deserve a trophy not only for the program, but also for having the strength to keep working on it over time (as most freeware authors eventually give up and you did not) and improving it in ways that most users won't be able to even see the improvement at first sight.
Congratulations!
Yours,
audio. |
