Hi
I'm enjoying the possibilities with mp3directcut. But I do have a problem which I hope someone here can help me answering.
The new updates of mp3directcut should have better mp3 header support.
But I experience that after editing an mp3, the Lame header is missing.
This can be checked with encspot. There's only some xing information available.
Does anyone here know why this is happening?
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks in advance!
JF
EDIT: Oh yes, and I probably should add that my mp3s are encoded as VBR. |

MDC always had that issue and a report it many times by e-mail.
The problem is that at time to cut MDC does not update some fields in the lame tag of the output files like "music lenght", "music crc" & "tag crc" so programs like encspot can't read the lame tag.
What to do? You basically have 3 option for the moment:
1. Use another program called pcutmpe3, this program cut large files based on a cue and rewrites the lame tag like should be, plus it's more accurate than MDC doing this job. The program works with command lines but in the same page/thread you'll find a GUI for it.
2. Use another program to read the lame tag like Audio identifier that not only would read the lame tag but also will recalculate and show you the correct crc values in it.
3. Fix the lame tag updating those fields.
For the third option you will need Audio Identifier and an Hex Editor.and to know what bytes change.
VBR header of a file cutted with MDC
Audio Identifier reading the lame tag of the file opened in hex mode above (note that the "music lenght" field have the value of the large original file and that both crc are "0000")
Encspot unable to read the lame tag.
Fix
1. remove any id3 tag with your prefer tag editor (I recommend tagscanner or mp3tag)
2. open the file in your hex editor
3. change the "outdated track lenght" for the "correct track lenght", save the file.
4. update the "music crc" with the correct value given by Audio Identifier. save the file.
5. update the "lame tag crc" with the correct value given by Audio Identifier. save the file.
6. check with audio identifier and Encspot.
Audio Identifier now show the correct values for "music length" and crcs
Encspot now can read the lame tag perfectly
Well as you can imagine fix the lame tag manually for each file that MDC generates is a pain in the ass, that's why I suggested to Martin many time by email and also here that fix this issue.
The Lame Info tag contain many relevant information like quality or lowpass switch that allow the user have some certainty about the preset used at time to encode the mp3 and in consequence about the quality of this one. I hope that Martin could see it in the same way and find some time to fix this.
In the meantime if you don't want to go through all this process to see the lame info in encspot take one of the other options that I gave you above (like I said for cue based cut cutpcutmp3 works great)
Hope this help you, kind regards. |
