Volume controls don't want to work in 1by1 player with Vista x64.

When I updated the sound drivers in Vista, something in the 1by1 player has stopped working properly.

Which is called the volume control. Without enabling 16 bit mode, volume does not change no matter where the notch is. It stays the same according to the application volume setting in the volume mixer.

Indeed there's a work around by using Alternative Volume but does that change it to 16 bit mode?

I was expecting to change the volume of 1by1 without the need of using 16 bit mode which did work before I applied the latest sound drivers.

I am using the latest version which is 1.68.

You can try to use the DirectSound output instead of WaveOut. Also the 5.1 option could be a try.

The Alternative volume option works only in 16 bit mode, on output of other depths like 24 bit this option is ignored - so it does not affect the output settings. 16 bit output is the standard on decoding mp3 with ACM or mpglib. Other depths are only possible with plugins. So if you play your mp3 with ACM or mpglib, you can use Alt. volume setting.
