Hi all,
Let me start by saying that MP3DC is awesome! The combination of pause detection, simple+powerful edit and cut buttons, and flexible navigation make it ridiculously easy to snip up long files even with no cues to start from.
However, the 64kbps Windows Media stream on my internet radio station sounds much better than the 96kbps mp3 version, and generates smaller files, too.
I figured out how to download the WMA stream, but there are no good programs out there to slice it up afterward. Most are expensive, even the expensive ones have awful navigation, and only a couple do silence detection.
For now I use a mix of ffmpeg, mplayer, and Windows Media utilities. It's an inelegant 5-step process that can't be scripted (thanks, MS) and I wish I could use MP3DC instead, but the sound quality and disk space difference is too big to go back to mp3.
Do other people run into WMA as well, or am I just unlucky?
I know Ogg/Vorbis (no documentation) and WAV/PCM (too different from mp3) are on the "probably not" list, but is there hope for .wma? It's rather widely used , from Wikipedia the format sounds similar to mp3, and ffmpeg, at least, seems to be LGPL and might make a good starting point.
Thanks!
