mp3DirectCut : suggest shortcut to create silence

Hello,
Thank you very much for this excellent software. I use it very often to remove annoying jingles, advertisements and other craps from radio podcasts.

To get a clean record, I go to the precise beginning of the good part, then:

1- press "N",
2- go back 2 steps (step set to 39 frames = ± 1sec),
3- press "B", which selects a 2 seconds area, which I convert to silence.

up to here, it's easy, fast & handy. But the way I've found to create a silence and remove all the crap before it is boresome:

4- press "alt"
5- press "E"
6- press "G"
7- press "S"
8- press "O"

.......... 5 steps to make a silence, this is a lot of keystrokes !

9- press "N"
... to mark end of area to remove
10- press "home"
... to return to beginnig of track
11- press "B"
12- press "del"
... to get rid of the crap

Then I search for the next jingle+ads and have to go through steps 1-8 again for each.

That makes VERY MANY steps, especially if the podcast is 1 h 45 long, with a jingle/ad to cut off every 7 minutes !

It would be very kind of you if you could install a quicker/shorter way to make a silence, with 1 keystroke instead of 5 (steps 4 to 8 ).

PS: Have you an idea on HOW to AUTOMATICALLY DETECT a JINGLE in an audio track (and occasionnaly remove it). I've searched for many a day without finding any software able to do it.

I think I don't understand exactly WHAT you want to cut out. Why don't you:
4 - press Del, and done?


For complex cut and gain operations I recommend this:

1. Mark beginning and end: B / N or Mouse
2. Fine adjust selection: 1/2/3/4 and prelisten: F9
3. Cut: Del
4. Add Edit points (simple click, Cut => DOTTED LINE)
5. Adjust volume: left mouse button, adjust position: right button

Thank you for your answer, mpesch3. In fact, you're right, when re-reading my post, I see that I didn't define clearly how I use Mp3DC for cleaning tracks. Here it is:

By "cleaning", I mean that I not simply cut out the unwanted part, but replace it by a ~ 2 seconds silence whatever the unwanted piece's length is.

And it's the operation of inserting a silence which for now requests me many keystrokes:

after selecting a segment, I have FIVE -quite distant from each other on the keyboard- keys to press in order to convert it to a silence:

Alt -> E -> G -> S -> O

And my suggestion is : could all these keystroke be replaced by only ONE (ie: "S" for "silence" for easy mnemonic), so as to be as handy as your excellent choice of "B" for "beginning" or "N" for "end".

See what I mean ?
