Well,
This is good news.
The first 50 Archos Multimedia players have arrived at Archos. This
comes from my contact from shipping/receiving who has actually seen
them as he took delivery of them. So this is a FACT.
These are going to be distributed to Archos sales people. I was told
that shortly after this inital test order that the first retail order
of 2000 units will be going to Archos for distribution through their
channels.
I am trying to get my hands on one of these units for my own testing
purposes and hope to do so ASAP. It will allow me to answer
everyone's questions with certainty.
The next batch could be as soon as next week.
I will be calling Archos again Monday to push them for more updates.
Hope this helps. Its the best info I have but knowing there are units
arriving now is a great start.

Spoke with Archos today..many times actually. Was told the new units
work great. They have polished metal buttons that are dark grey,
almost black and look great. The person I spoke with got a digital
camera and has been uploading pics from the CF to the MMP and says
that it immediately recognizes the card and asks where you want to put
the pics on the hard drive. You can even create new folders for your
pics. Uploads are very fast and he saud every pic he took displayed
great on the display on the MMP.
The Camera module is being reworked with a flash and hopefully higher
pixel counts.
The Photo modules work great.
There will be a cover going over the display of the MMP so when you
use it as a camera or digital camcorder you can put your eye right up
to the display like on a camcorder.
Firewire works great with the proper adapter cable.
He is testing micro drives and will let me know how it works if not
before I get one to test.
Archos is working really hard to make sure this unit is well thought
out and has responded to complaints and concerns and bugs which
explains the delay.
Oh one other thing....apparently the MMP may be released in Europe
with a 10G hard drive. They havent decided yet. Makes no sense to me
.
The units do use a LI-Ion Battery and this is located on the back of
the player.
